Asset properties tab missing on customer asset form in my Dynamics 365 Field Service installation

I have only tried to use Asset properties in European tenants (CRM4) and can’t find it on the form as explained in the documentation. Has it been release?

Background:

From the Field Service App I only have the following tabs on the Customer Asset form:

Summary; Command History; Alerts; Related

On the Function Location form I have the following tabs:

General; Asset and Locations; Related

It is not at all as shown it the documentation:

Asset properties in Dynamics 365 Field Service | Microsoft Docs

And as shown in the referenced YouTube video:

https://youtu.be/dhruNqBXMgw

Looking in the default solutions I don’t have tabs related to properties as illustrated in the documentation video.

I have tested it in two environments, I have no pending installations, and this is what I have enabled/installed:

  • 2020 release wave 2 enabled
  • Server version: 9.1.0000.25551
  • Client version: 1.4.1820-2011.1

With the following the following “Field service apps”:

  • Connected Field Service for Microsoft Dynamics 365 - Version 1.8.7.14
  • Field Service – Version 8.8.31.97

Any tips?

    I would make sure that there are no rules or scripts that show/hide elements of your form and then raise a support ticket. FS v8.8.31.97 should definitely have asset properties. Can you check if your sitemap shows FS>Settings>Property Definitions?

    Hi I experience this and logged a support call.

    You need to manually add the Tab to the form via customisation as below, Fix is planned for 2022 Wave 1

    Recommendation:

    ==============================

    I completed the following steps in testing the reported issue to find a possible mitigation.

    1. Replicated our issue:

    Mitigation - Manually add Assets and Locations Tab

    ================================================

    1. In System Customizer, go to Entities -> Customer Asset -> Forms -> Customer Asset

    2. At the top of the form customizer, click Insert and add a 1 column tab. Once added, double click the tab and rename to "Assets and Locations". Then double click Section Properties and rename to Assets and Locations, hide the label:

    3. Then on the right side, uncheck "Only show unused fields" and add the "Name" field to the new section. Double click the name field, go to Controls, and find Tree View Control, make sure the control is enabled for Web. Hide the label of the field:

    4. Save and Publish.

    Mitigation - Manually add Properties Tab

    ================================================

    1. Same as step 1 above

    2. Same as step 2 above for adding a tab and section. Give the tab "Properties" label.

    3. Select the new section, then at the top go to insert -> subgrids. Give it a "Current Property Values" label, make it visible. Select "Property Logs (Customer Asset)" as the entity:

    4. Save and publish.

    5. This will give functionality to the missing tabs:

    Plan:

    =====================================

    I also dug deeper into this and we have a defect raised with Product Group i.e. OneCRM 1981863.  When reviewing the defect, considering the amount of coding and development involved, the fix is proposed as a long-term fix and the tentative date for the deployment now is around Wave 1 2022, so we'll need to use the mitigation/workaround in the meantime to manually readd the tabs back to the customer asset form.

    This usually comes down to Field Service configuration, not a missing feature.

    Check these:

    1. Asset Properties must be enabled

    2.
    • Go to Field Service Settings / Parameters
    • Make sure Asset Properties feature is turned on

    •
    1. Related entities not added to the form
    • Open Customer Asset form → Form editor
    • Check if “Asset Properties” tab/subgrid is actually added
    • In many cases, it’s not included in your current form version

    •
    1. Solution/version mismatch

    2.
    • You’re on older versions (v8.x). Asset Properties were improved in later releases

      Some docs/videos show newer UI/features not fully available in older builds

    •
    1. App module differences
    • Make sure you’re using the correct Field Service app (not a limited/custom app)

    Quick test:

    Create a new form or check default (out-of-box) form.

    If it appears there → it’s a form customization issue, not installation.
