MRP -- Pegging Inquiry vs. Request Resolution

Hi:

In Dynamics GP, I'm having trouble comparing the Pegging Inquiry window with the Request Resolution window.

Pegging Inquiry perfectly explains why two MPK documents were created for the two components of a BOM found in Sales Forecasting, Sales Orders, and any corresponding Manufacturing Orders.

When I had the Request Resolution window create two Purchase Orders (MPOs), however, the quantities in those Purchase Orders didn't match anywhere near the quantities called for in the two MPK documents.

Why not?

What's the difference, then, between the two windows?  Do they serve two separate purposes?  Does Request Resolution primarily serve to eliminate raw material shortages of items, in general, regardless of any specific Manufacturing Order?

The BOM and its two components use the Fixed Order Quantity policy in Item Resource Planning.

Thanks!

John
