GP2018 – Email error message “PDF file not created” was displayed.

Hi, We have recently upgraded GP2013R2 to GP18.6.1685 (2023).

When attempting to email customer statements, we are receiving the error message: “PDF file not created.”

The system is configured to use MAPI with Outlook, and the Microsoft Office version in use is 16.0.14332.20344 (32‑bit).

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you are using the standard GP Report Writer (not Word Templates).  Do you have Adobe Acrobat (and not just the reader) installed and successfully creating PDFs?

Here is a little information that may help from the Email Troubleshooting Guide:

learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-gp/installation/email-troubleshooting-guide#pdf-not-created - section on PDF not created

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-gp/installation/email-troubleshooting-guide#mapi-specific-errors - section on MAPI-specific errors

Hi Lisa, Thank you for the response.

We use Word Templates for the email. The email function was working properly when using GP2013R2 but not working after upgrade to new server and GP.
If we change to HTML file the email able to send out.

Any idea if there is anything else we might have missed?

I'm not familiar with your exact setup.  (For example, I don't think we have any clients left on MAPI for email.)

Did you read through the links I sent?  The things that stand out to me are:
    • Since it works for HTML, the SY04905 work-around seems like it could be the key.
    • The Outlook 32-bit requirement and not using Classic Outlook.

Yes, we have read through the links. Table SY04905 is in order.

We try to change to exchange but unable to login as the Exchange Log On window keep prompt out.

We will try to change back to MAPI then try older outlook version.

If you had Exchange (M365) working in your prior version, you may just need to complete the Entra setup piece mentioned in the Troubleshooting Guide I previously sent.  Here is a blog post to it:

Modern Authentication and upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics GP 18.5

[If you are on M365/Exchange Online, Microsoft strongly recommends moving away from the MAPI email method ... Once you get through the setup of the Exchange option, it is a far better email experience.]

We have changed to Exchange but still received the same error message: “PDF file not created”.

The email settings have been updated.

Any idea if there is anything else we might have missed?

We were able to resolve the issue. During the upgrade from GP 2013, the modified Word template was not carried over, as this step was missed. After re‑creating the Word template, the issue was resolved.
