Hi everyone,
We are looking for advice from anyone running Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with FIFO costing in a high-volume distribution environment.
Our current setup is:
Costing Method: FIFO
Automatic Cost Adjustment: Automatic
Expected Cost Posting: Enabled
Approximately 1,000 sales orders processed per day
Approximately 1,000 warehouse shipments and sales invoices posted daily
As our transaction volumes continue to grow, we are beginning to experience performance degradation during posting. We are reviewing whether Automatic Cost Adjustment could be contributing to the issue.
My understanding is that FIFO requires cost adjustment to ensure inventory costs are applied correctly. However, I wanted to understand whether anyone has successfully changed Automatic Cost Adjustment from Automatic to Day (or another option) and instead relied on the Adjust Cost - Item Entries job queue.
If so:
Has this improved posting performance?
Are there any drawbacks or risks with FIFO?
How frequently do you run the Adjust Cost job?
Do you also run Post Inventory Cost to G/L as a scheduled job?
Are there any best practices for high-volume environments processing over 1,000 warehouse shipments and invoices per day?
We're trying to understand the options before making any changes and would appreciate hearing how others manage FIFO costing at scale.
Thank you.
