Mass email Change in Dynamics "Duplicate" Issue

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

Hello,

I am trying to do a bulk email address change from one address to another since one company bought the other.

I know that there is a way to export the contacts through Dynamics and then make the changes in the excel sheet and import them back in but that didn't seem to work.

So I found another way to import contacts from the "Data Management" part of "Advanced Setting"...

Then I tried Importing some of the contacts and it said: "pastedimage1606920192049v1.png exists". I am pretty sure that there is only one of those contacts and all I am trying to do is update the email address of the contact itself.

I have been bumping my head against the wall for a while and I would really appreciate any kind of help in resolving this "Duplicate" account issue.

Thank you very much to anyone who can help.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Kevin,

It is likely that your contact records already have duplicates, so when you update them, duplicates will be detected.

D365 has mulpiple duplicate detection rules for Contact, not just checking email fields.

You can see all duplicate detection rules in Settings > Data Management > Duplicate Detection Rules.

There are three rules for Contact, they detect business phone number, email address, first name and last name respectively.

So we have two solutions, pick one.

    1. Find out which of the existing Contact records are duplicates and edit them.
    2. Temporarily disable duplicate detection rules for Contact, except for the one that detects emails, and then import contact data.

If you choose the first solution, then please refer to this blog to find duplicates in contacts.

If you choose the second solution, then please select other duplicate detection rules except email, and then Unpublish them.

If none of the above solutions help, then you can only choose to allow duplicates when importing Contacts.
