Having trouble understanding the dates.

Is requested what we "wish" for or ?
Is the confirmed date what the supplier actually has said in the order confirmation?
The difference between ship date and receipt date is the transport time i guess?

Can someone explain what these 4 dates are and which ones is being used when doing a OTD Report on the suppliers?
Requested ship date
Requested receipt date
Confirmed ship date
Confirmed receipt date

I read different from everyone since there are alot of perspectives on them.

    Hi,

For a full understanding on how the dates behave, are calculated and re-calculated based on changes, here is an article from Microsoft Learn page that should help you. Calculate requested ship dates for purchase orders - Supply Chain Management | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn

    Thanks for confirming.

However if I choose to say "oh I want it in 4 weeks" which is then a wish from my side more or less and then the order confirmation says 6 weeks. Then its not fair if the OTD says "hey your late".

And if I then receive a new date from them saying it will be 8 weeks and then change the confirmed date. Will it not then push the OTD?

What I am asking for is that the confirmed date of the order confirmation should not be touched since then the ODT can not be 100% sure.

Can then the Requested Ship Date be be used as what the first confirmed date actually was?(to not mess with the ODT i mean)

    Hi!

Here are the descriptions and explanations for the dates in a purchase order and how they can be used:

    1. Requested Ship Date: This is the date by which the buyer requests the vendor to ship the goods. It helps in planning the shipment and ensuring that the goods are dispatched on time to meet the buyer's requirements.

    2. Requested Receipt Date: This is the date by which the buyer requests to receive the goods at their location. It is used to ensure that the goods arrive on time for the buyer's needs and helps in planning inventory and production schedules.

    3. Confirmed Ship Date: This is the date when the vendor has confirmed that they will ship the order from their location. It helps in tracking the shipment and ensuring that the vendor meets the agreed shipping schedule.

    4. Confirmed Receipt Date: This is the date when the vendor has confirmed that the order will be received at the buyer's location. It is used to verify that the delivery will meet the buyer's requirements and helps in planning for the arrival of goods.

These dates help track and compare the planned versus actual delivery performance. The Requested Ship Date and Requested Receipt Date represent the dates by which the user expects the items to be shipped and received, respectively. The Confirmed Ship Date and Confirmed Receipt Date are the dates confirmed by the supplier for shipping and receiving the items. By comparing these dates, the OTD Report can determine if the supplier met the expected delivery timelines.
