D365FO Licensing Analysis | Operations License Cost

(6) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 30
I was requested to do an analysis of our current D365FO Security Roles to determine the Licensing Level and cost involved.

After running some security reports and checking the "view permissions" form from the Roles, the highest license level for some of our roles is "Operations".

I looked into the official D365 Licensing Guide D365, but it is not clear what the cost is for the "Operations" license.

Due to the above, I would like to ask if anyone can share what the current cost is for this type of License.

Thanks!

I see a few points that you need to work with.
    1) cost
there is standard pricing for Dynsmics 365, which you can google. However most organisations get discounts based on enterprise agreements, so it could be a case of using standard cost price which is available on google or you would need to use price that is applicable for your company.

    2) number of licenses
You need to use new licensing reports from power platform and from the USG(use security governance), USG is a new set of features available in dynamics. Use the new reports for analysing the license requirement per security role, per user etc.

    3) You may end up re-adjusting some security roles to save/reduce the total costs (this is optional step and depends upon your current configurations)

    Hi,

The license information on the View permissions form should not be used anymore. This license information is deprecated and had in several cases incorrect results. Instead, you should review data on the new User Security Governance (USG) form License usage summary. I wrote a blog about it: Dynamics 365 F&O license enforcement status - July 2025 - Dynamicspedia

The word "Operations" was initially a similar name as an enterprise license before the F&O product was split into several different SKUs. If this was mentioned after the split, then there could be a choice between base licenses, such as Finance, SCM, Commerce. The License usage summary gives now insights what exact licenses you can choose from. Sometimes you can choose between e.g. HR and Project Operations, and for other users, depending on the role contents and assignments e.g. between Finance and Supply Chain Management.

So, there is no Operations SKU, only what is listed in the Dynamics 365 Licensing guide.

    Hi,

Please note that the word “Operations” was the earlier umbrella term for the enterprise license before Microsoft split Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations into separate SKUs (Finance, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, etc.)
In practice, the actual cost will depend on which of the current base licenses apply to the role (Finance, Supply Chain Management, Project Operations, HR, or Commerce). The License Usage Summary report in D365FO is a more precise way to identify which license types are consumed.

As for cost, Microsoft no longer sells a generic Operations license. Instead, you would look at the list price for the specific base license. For example (USD list pricing, subject to region/agreements). For reference a pricing is shared below:

    Finance – ~$210/user/month
    Supply Chain Management – ~$210/user/month
    Commerce – ~$210/user/month
    Project Operations – ~$135/user/month
    Human Resources – ~$135/user/month

I’d recommend validating the exact SKU with the License usage summary and then checking with your CSP/partner for the final pricing in your region, as enterprise agreement or volume discounts can change the effective cost.
    Hope that helps clarify!

, Thanks for your contribution to this question. Please note that the current base price for Finance is also $210 not $180.

In fact, I started using the new functionality License Usage Summary and here is when my confusion came.
