The available inventory figure is calculated taking into account sales return orders that could come back using the due date on the sales return order. So when a return order is then delayed or if the stock is received back and is then not sellable, this time cannot be met causing issues.

Is there a process we can use without using a separate location that the system doesn't see any stock on sales return orders until they have been received in?

You could use sales credit memos.

If the items returned are on a credit memo, they are not shown as available inventory. That will not work if you use WMS in that location.

The best way to handle this scenario with sales return orders is to ensure that the planned receipt date on the document is updated when delayed.

That is correct. Scheduled returns are included in the availability calculation and only customisation can exclude them.

As far as I know this is standard behavior.
Only customization can do it.

Hopefully other experts can give you better advice.
