Cash Discount - Including Charges

(3) ShareShare

Hi,

For most of my customers I have set up a 30 day cash discount which is calculated as follow:
(Gross price - discount) * 1% = Cash discount

This disregard any charges we are charging the customers, on top of the usual costs for the goods sold.

However, for a few customers I would like to include these charges in the calculation for my cash discount, so the calculation should be as follow:

(Gross price - discount + charges) * 1% = Cash discount

These charges are set up as auto charge in D365.

Does someone know if this is possible?

Best,
Matthieu

    Hi MH-31031325-0,

    1) Issue
    - Requirement to include auto charges in the cash discount calculation in D365 Finance
    - Standard configuration calculates cash discount based on (Gross price - discount) only
    - Charges such as auto charges are excluded from the cash discount base
    - Need to apply a different calculation logic for specific customers where charges are included
    - No standard parameter available to control this behavior per customer

    2) Reason
    - The limitation is caused by the standard cash discount calculation logic in D365 Finance which is based only on invoice line amounts
    - Auto charges are handled separately from the line amount and are not part of the discountable base amount
    - This leads to a situation where charges are excluded from the cash discount calculation by design
    - This can happen because charges are treated as additional postings and not integrated into the pricing calculation framework used for cash discounts
    - The system does not provide a standard configuration to selectively include charges in the cash discount base for specific customers

    3) Resolution
    - There is no out of the box configuration to include auto charges in cash discount calculation
    - Consider customizing the cash discount calculation logic to include charges in the base amount
    - Alternatively move charges into the line pricing structure so they are part of the line amount and included in the calculation
    - Use trade agreements or price adjustments instead of auto charges where possible to include them in the net amount
    - Configure separate customers or customer groups and apply a custom solution only where required
    - Develop an extension in the calculation framework to modify the cash discount base amount during posting
    - Test thoroughly to ensure financial consistency and no impact on tax or reporting
    - Document the deviation from standard logic for audit and compliance purposes

*Due to the complex and different possibilities of deploying Dynamics 365 I highly recommend not to setup the application without some expert/partner or support. (For more information contact me under anassl@inno-solutions.info or visit www.inno-solutions.de)

*The Information comes directly from the manufacturer or provider and are validated (not guaranteed) up to date of creation of the posting.

    Hi,

D365 does not natively support including auto charges in the cash discount base calculation — by standard design, the discount is only calculated on the net invoice line amount (Gross Price – Discount), and auto charges are always excluded. The simplest workaround without any development is to post those charges as direct invoice lines instead of auto charges for those specific customers, as line amounts are naturally included in the cash discount base. If that's not feasible, a customization can be built to modify the discount base calculation logic to include specific charge codes only for selected customers, giving you full flexibility.
