Access to Virtual Tables in Dataverse (Finance and Operations)

Hello everyone,

I'm having trouble giving a user access to a specific Virtual Table in Dataverse (coming from Finance & Operations).
Here’s what I’ve done so far:

Created a custom security role in Dataverse that grants full access (Read / Write / Append / Append To) to the target virtual table.
Assigned Environment Maker, System Customizer, Finance and Operations Basic User, and the custom role to the user.
In Finance and Operations, the user also has:
- Dataverse Virtual Entity Authenticated User
- Dataverse Virtual Entity Integration App
- Security roles related to the module, giving full access to the tables in F&O

However, the user still cannot access the F&O Virtual Table in Dataverse, even though I (as System Administrator) can access it without issues.

What exact requirements are needed for a Dataverse user to access an F&O virtual table? Does it also depend on permissions on the underlying Data Entity in F&O?

How do you, or the user access the Virtual Table? Do you have a flow or power app in place?

Hi,

There would be a role in the Dataverse named as Finance and operations basic user

Assign this role to the user on the CE/Dataverse side

A Dataverse user needs permissions in both Dataverse and Finance & Operations to access an F&O Virtual Table. In Dataverse, the user must have a security role that grants at least Read access on the specific virtual table, because roles like Environment Maker or System Customizer do not grant data access. However, the most commonly missed requirement is that the user must also have the correct F&O security roles that allow access to the underlying Data Entity the virtual table is based on. Even though the user is reading the data from Dataverse, the request is still validated in Finance & Operations, so the user must have at least read privileges on the Data Entity (for example, CustCustomerV3Entity) and not just general F&O roles. Along with this, the user must exist in both environments through Azure AD sync and must have the required Dataverse Virtual Entity Integration roles in F&O. If any of these pieces are missing—especially the Data Entity permissions—the user will not be able to view the virtual table in Dataverse. EZ Pass MA

Hi Sohaib, I've already tried assigning Finance and operations basic user, which was assigned by default already as well.

Hi,

Go to legacy CRM UI there check if business unit is matching and assign your custom Security role there.

Hi António,

To be able to see the data in the virtual table, the user should have access in Dynamics 365 F&O on the data entity. For each data entity, there are read and maintain privileges created. You should check which one includes your data entity and add this to the role in F&O.

Hi Sagar, it's matching. The security role and the user are in the same business unit, which is the standard one.
