I have a question regarding a requirement I have been assigned in Dynamics CRM on premise 9.x
I have an entity X
I have a security role “Sales”
Sales security role doesn’t have any privilege on X entity not even Read.
Requirement:
I want to show records of X in a list (View) to Sales users with specific columns.
I am planning to implement the solution using RetrieveMultiple plugin using Admin user impersonation. If anyone has done a similar implementation can guide me further so I will take that approach.
This seems an odd requirement. Could we get some more detail as to why you need this?
My instinct would be to use field security profiles to lock down most of the fields so that they can't be viewed without the correct role, then give the Sales security role read privilage.
If you truly need a special view showing only certain columns that is read-only and works even without privilages there are few options but they are clunky not and best practice.
1. A Report that is available on demand - could be an SSRS report for instance, or a Power BI report. It can literally just be a view, but available to anyone. i'd say PowerBi is a good fit here.
2. a Custom PCF control that does not respect permissions and renders out the view in a custom way.
3. Used an internal-facing Power pages portal and the entity list functionality. Not ideal due to licesning.
