SQL timeouts in D365 Project Operations

 Good afternoon

Has anyone been experiencing SQL timeouts/system slowdown in D365 Project Operations when trying to select transactions for Invoicing or when trying to import Quote line details?

We have been having these issues for the past 4 weeks every Monday and Tuesday morning, where project Operations is painfully slow and when the business are trying to do day to day processes are experiencing timeout and various error messages.

Look forward to hearing from the forum

Kind regards

Catherine

    Hi CC-18111727-0,

    1) Issue
    - SQL timeouts and severe performance degradation in D365 Project Operations
    - Errors occur when selecting transactions for invoicing or importing quote line details
    - Users experience OrganizationServiceFault errors network errors and "Too Many Requests" messages
    - Issue occurs on specific days (Monday and Tuesday mornings)
    - System becomes unusable during peak business processing periods

    2) Reason
    - The issue is caused by high concurrency and resource contention in Dataverse and Project Operations services
    - A large number of simultaneous requests exceeds platform limits resulting in throttling ("Too Many Requests")
    - Long running SQL queries for transaction selection or quote processing exceed execution thresholds
    - This leads to failures when the system attempts to process requests within the allowed time window
    - This can happen due to peak usage periods batch jobs integrations or heavy data volumes being processed concurrently
    - In some cases inefficient queries large datasets or missing optimization in customizations amplify the problem

    3) Resolution
    - Analyze system usage patterns especially on Mondays and Tuesdays to identify peak load drivers
    - Check for batch jobs integrations or data imports running during these periods and reschedule if needed
    - Review transaction volumes in Project Operations especially unbilled transactions and reduce dataset size where possible
    - Apply filters in forms to limit the number of records loaded during invoicing or quote processing
    - Monitor Dataverse capacity and API limits to ensure the environment is not hitting throttling thresholds
    - Use Performance insights and monitoring tools in Power Platform Admin Center to identify slow queries
    - Optimize customizations or plugins that may introduce heavy or inefficient processing
    - Split large operations such as invoice proposals into smaller batches to reduce execution time
    - Consider scaling the environment or reviewing licensing capacity if usage demand has increased
    - If persistent collect correlation IDs timestamps and error logs and raise a Microsoft support ticket for deeper analysis
