How to manage shared resource usage between companies in D365 F&O?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a scenario involving three entities in D365 F&O: A, B, and C.

Situation:

A and B both rely on the machining services provided by C.

When A and B launch their production orders in D365, they need to ensure that neither entity is requesting C’s resources at the same time.

Question:

Is there an alternative or a feature in D365 that can help us manage and share this information to prevent simultaneous resource requests from A and B for C’s services?

Specifically, I’m looking for a way to track and allocate C’s resources in a way that prevents both A and B from using them at the same time. Any tips or suggestions on how to set this up in D365 would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

How to manage shared resource usage between companies in D365 F&O?
    Hi all,

Sagar_patil, thank you very much for your response. If I understand correctly, your solution focuses on Company C, allowing C to be aware if A and B are requesting the same resources at the same time. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

To better clarify what I’m looking for, let me provide an example:

    Scenario:
    • A and B belong to the same group but are different entities in D365 F&O, each with their own configuration (e.g., resources, production parameters, etc.). The only things they share are certain information like address books and product units of measurement.
    • A and B also have their own master planning production setup, which is independent of each other.
    Problem:
    • On January 7th, both A and B decide to launch a production order—one for A and one for B.
    • Both orders require services from C, and both need to use the same resource from C.
    • Suppose A launches the production order at 10:00 AM, and B launches theirs at 11:00 AM. Is it possible for B to receive a warning from their own master planning production system that says something like:
      • "You can't produce because C's resource is already going to be used by A."
This warning would come from B’s system based on the allocation of resources from C, even though A and B are separate entities.
Question: Is there any way in D365 F&O to have B's master planning production notify B if A has already requested the same resource from C?

Thanks for your help and looking forward to your suggestions.

How to manage shared resource usage between companies in D365 F&O?
    Hi DL,
Interesting scenario.  The setup suggested by Sagar in previous answer would be to control the capacity for the resources in C that would be available for A & B's work.

Is it fair to assume that Legal Entity C is providing subcontracting services to the other Legal Entities?

A and B belongs to same resource group? Check route and ensure that under the resource load tab quantity mentioned as 1.

    and
Define resource of type- Machine and ensure that 'Finite capacity' option is selected.
