Can you mix and match Phantom Bill of Materials as well as having Traditional BoMs (made to stock) in order to achieve the end goal of having a finished product. Some assemblies can be made relatively quickly and can be grouped together (ideal for a phantom) while others could take a lot longer (2 to 3 weeks) and include some subcontracting.

How difficult is it to bring it all together at the end?

Hello ,

Yes, you can mix Phantom BOMs and traditional BOMs in Business Central, and it’s a standard manufacturing setup. Use phantoms for fast, simple sub-assemblies that don’t need their own production orders, and normal BOMs with routings for long-lead or subcontracted components. Planning (MRP/MPS) automatically ties everything together using lead times and replenishment methods. The complexity is low, as long as lead times and replenishment settings are correct—most issues come from poor master data, not the BOM structure itself.
