Allocation of Numerical Identifiers/Periods/Flight Legs of a Job to Product Lines in Job Journal

Is it possible to possible to assign a numerical identifier - flight legs in my case - to product lines in the job journal? For example, one job may consist of 3 periods, identified with numbers 1,2 and 3 respectively. How can I set up my job journal so I can always choose one of these identifiers for the product line I am about to post? This is already set up as a possibility when allocating itemized expenses of an incoming invoice but I don´t seem to get the option when I am posting product lines myself.

    Hi TS-05050828-0,

    1) Issue
    - Requirement to assign a numerical identifier such as periods or flight legs to product lines in the job journal in Dynamics 365
    - Users are able to assign such identifiers when allocating itemized expenses from vendor invoices
    - The same functionality is not available when manually posting product lines in the job journal
    - This results in inconsistent tracking of job-related segmentation such as flight legs or periods

    2) Reason
    - The limitation is caused by the standard job journal not supporting dimension like allocation or identifier assignment at line level for product entries by default
    - The functionality available in vendor invoice allocation uses a different framework that supports detailed distribution and tagging of costs
    - The job journal posting process does not expose the same allocation or segmentation mechanism for manual entries
    - This can happen because the job journal relies on standard financial dimensions or categories rather than custom identifiers unless explicitly extended
    - In some cases the required identifier is not configured as a financial dimension or not included in the journal line structure

    3) Resolution
    - Configure the numerical identifier such as flight legs or periods as a financial dimension in the system
    - Assign the dimension to the job journal line so users can select it during posting
    - Ensure the dimension is included in the account structure and active for the relevant ledger accounts
    - Consider using categories or activity codes if they better fit the tracking requirement
    - If standard functionality is not sufficient implement a customization to extend the job journal line with the required identifier field
    - Align the setup with the invoice allocation functionality to ensure consistent behavior across processes
    - Test the configuration in a non production environment to verify that identifiers can be selected and reported correctly
    - If needed involve development to replicate the allocation behavior from vendor invoices into job journal processing

*Due to the complex and different possibilities of deploying Dynamics 365 I highly recommend not to setup the application without some expert/partner or support. (For more information contact me under anassl@inno-solutions.info or visit www.inno-solutions.de)

*The Information comes directly from the manufacturer or provider and are validated (not guaranteed) up to date of creation of the posting.
