Hi All,

I need you help in figuring out how to open customer detail form from within power bi.

I am displaying list of customer from data lake. I want the capability in power bi to provide hyperlink on customer name. So when user clicks on it, it opens F&O customer detail form.

Pls let me know how to achieve this.

Thanks

    Hi,

The way we implemented this was the following:

    1. The following deep link directs you directly to the customer. Unfortunately, there is no standard function where you can list deep links for customer.
So, you need a developer who creates a table in a database listing all customers and calling the class\method that creates the deep link for the customers.
The table is then synced from D365FO on a daily\hourly bases, creating deep links for new customers.

    2. The deep links can then be shown in the Power BI report.

    Kind regards, Adis

    Hi Jeff,

In addition to the reply from Adis, you can read the next articles for generating and using deep links. There are two options:

Create shareable, secured URLs (deep links) - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn

@jeffgreenrc I would create the deeplinks on demand from the report instead of pre-creating deeplinks for all customers.

The reason why I say this, is that the F&O deeplink URLs are very long, 1000 characters or more (see the screenshot below). If such a deeplink URL is pre-created for each customer, it  will blow up your database and data lake. Unless you have very few customers of course.

There is also another point, perhaps you are not aware of this. Menu items that are used for deep links, must have the "Allow root navigation" property enabled. The standard CustomerDetails menu item does not have this enabled. And it's not possible to enable this with an extension, I checked.

    Hope this helps.

I have seen a new way to navigate to records using data entities (without the deep links). I saw it on a session. I am forgetting where I saved those details. If someone can remember they can post it. I would try my best to find it out.

Good one, yes that's the one I was talking about:

https://[Root URL for the environment]/?cmp=[data area ID]&mi=action:SysEntityNavigation&entityName=[entity plural schema name]&entityGuid=[GUID of entity record]

    Example:

Note: you get the GUID from Dataverse.
