How to setup different item with same code but different posting groups?

Let's say I got an item 10R that's bought and sold as a "regular item". We still got some inventory so I can't just change the posting groups.
We're trying to enter a "manufactured" version that has the same item code and the team doesn't want to change it in the system.
The easiest way is to setup a brand new item 10R-2.

However this wouldn't sync up with our reporting as we're filtering by item code that matches with another system.

Any ideas on how we'd use the same item 10R but the replenishment is Production with separate posting groups? We're not able to sell off everything completely and might have to use the two interchangeably going forward still. We're trying to see with the factory/customers if we can change the code but there's been pushback.
