We would like to reach contacts via the email address they used to create a login for our portal. So we are going to keep track of the email address that contact uses to access our portal in an extra field on the contact file. This is not always the same email address as their professional email.   So we would also like to email these contacts, but to the address of that login to inform them about our portal. Putting those contacts in a segment is no problem, but getting the email to arrive at that login email address is not possible. Does anyone have a solution for this?

We don't want to create extra contacts because, given that the first and last names are the same and sometimes the email address of the contact and the login are also the same, we will keep getting duplicate notifications.

In Dynamics 365, you can’t directly send emails to a custom “login” email field on the same contact record using standard segments or journeys. A common approach is to create a custom email activity in a workflow or Power Automate flow that pulls the login email from the custom field and sends the message, avoiding duplicate contacts while ensuring the portal login address receives the email.

    Good afternoon,

In the Settings area under Audience Configuration you are able to select the Contact entity and change the email field from the default - however I believe this only applies to the OOTB email fields emailaddress1, emailaddress2, or emailaddress3, so it doesn't sound like this will help you if the email address that pulls through when the contact creates a login for the portal is then pulled into a custom field.

Alternatively, in Real Time Journeys you are able to use the CC feature when setting up the journey. Under the recipient options, you are able to send the email to additional fields on the contact record.

Hopefully this helps - let me know if you have further questions.

    Kind regards,
    Fiona
