Good morning, afternoon, or evening—depending on where you are in the world!
    Hope you're doing well.

Why “Advanced Settings” Might Be Disabled
The Advanced Settings menu in Dynamics 365 CRM is only visible to users who have the appropriate security role. If it’s disabled or missing, it’s almost always due to insufficient privileges.

    Required Security Role
To access Advanced Settings, a user must be assigned a role that includes the System Administrator or System Customizer security role. These roles grant access to the full suite of configuration and customization tools, including:
    • System Settings
    • Business Management
    • Customizations
    • Administration tools
If the user doesn’t need full admin rights, a custom security role can be created with the necessary privileges, but it must include:
    • Read access to the “Customization” and “System Settings” entities
    • Miscellaneous privileges like “View Audit History,” “Publish Customizations,” and “View Application Metadata”
    How to Assign the Role
    1. Go to Settings > Advanced Settings (if you already have access).
    2. Navigate to Security > Users.
    3. Select the user in question.
    4. Click Manage Roles on the command bar.
    5. Assign the System Administrator or System Customizer role.
    6. Save and ask the user to refresh or re-login.

    Hope this helps some!

Oh hey, I just ran into this for a client. There are two issues at play here due to a recent update from Microsoft that transitioned the Advanced Settings area from being a backend menu to being in its own model driven app.

    • By default, only the System Administrator and System Customizer roles have access to the Model Driven App for Advanced Settings
    • You can share the settings app with your custom security roles as desired, similar to how other apps are shared.

The Model Driven App is called 'Power Platform Environment Settings'. Granting access to this app does not grant any extra permissions to the users, it just allows them to access the settings menu again.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for your guidance above. I have tried what you said but i can only assign a standard System Admin or System Customizer role when sharing the app, which gives the higher permission level I was trying to avoid. I tried making a copy of the System Customizer role to remove some of the permissions, but it does not appear on the list to assign. See below.

Am I doing something wrong or is there another way to share the app without having to assign standard System Admin or System Customizer role. Thank you for any help you can give.
