What is the general best practice for timing when to apply BC version updates? Microsoft occasionally pauses or postpones releases after launch due to bugs, is it common practice to wait a period of time before applying new updates rather than doing it right away? Wondering how others schedule this. Thank you!
from what I seen most people don't jump on a new major wave the day it drops. I usually wait a bit — let the first minor update come after the wave, so the worst bugs are already patched. Microsoft does pause rollouts sometimes when something bad shows up, but that's their call, you can't rely on it to protect you.
If you're on SaaS the important thing is your update window and target date in the admin center. You can postpone a major update but only inside the allowed range, you can't skip forever. So my habit is push the date near the end of the window, run the update first in a sandbox with a prod copy, check my extensions and integrations, then let prod go. On-prem you have full control so less pressure. Are you cloud or on-prem? And do you have custom AL extensions on top, or mostly standard? That changes how careful you need to be.
