Hi, I am trying to update the description only for a posted journal entry I made as the reference number I included was wrong and would like an accurate description included. Is there a way to go back into the data and edit it once it is already psoted?

What Dynamics product are you working with? Then I'll move it to the specific forum.

IF you are using Finance and Operations, there is an edit feature in the voucher transaction form that might help you; Whether or not exists in BC I don't know.
Otherwise a solution might be to make a new booking to correct the description? From an accounting perspective it might be the most correct approach.

    Hi there 👋

    Thanks for your question!

In Dynamics 365 Finance, once a journal entry is posted, it becomes part of the permanent audit trail and cannot be directly edited, including the description field. This is by design to ensure financial data integrity and compliance.

    ✅ Here are your options:

    1. Use a correction journal

      • Create a reversing journal entry to negate the original transaction.
      • Post a new journal entry with the correct description and reference number.
    2. Add a note or comment

      • If your organization uses document management or notes, you can attach a comment to the posted entry explaining the correction.
    3. Reporting workaround

      • If the description is needed for reporting purposes, consider creating a custom report or using Power BI to display the corrected description alongside the original entry.

💡 Always consult your finance team or auditor before making corrections to posted entries to ensure compliance with internal policies.

    Hope this helps!
