Hi everyone,
I am looking for guidance on best practices for resolving a historical reconciliation issue in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Background
- The company has several historical Sales and Purchase transactions that were posted using an incorrect Currency Factor, resulting in incorrect LCY amounts.
- The foreign currency amounts (EUR/USD) are correct, but the LCY values are incorrect, creating reconciliation differences between the Customer/Vendor Ledger and the General Ledger.
- All related customer receipts and vendor payments have already been posted, applied, and the ledger entries are fully closed.
Additional complication
Since these transactions were posted, the Inventory Posting Setup has been completely restructured.
- The legacy Inventory G/L accounts have been replaced with a new warehouse/location-based inventory structure.
- Inventory Posting Groups and G/L mappings have changed.
- The original inventory accounts are no longer used.
Because of this, reversing the historical sales or purchase documents would either:
- post inventory to an obsolete setup,
- require restoring historical posting groups,
- or create additional inventory inconsistencies.
Objective
Our primary objective is to:
- Reconcile AP and AR control accounts with the Vendor and Customer Ledgers.
- Correct the LCY discrepancies while preserving the integrity of historical inventory transactions.
- Avoid unnecessary reversals of operational documents if there is a supported alternative.
Questions
- What is the Microsoft-recommended approach for correcting historical transactions posted with an incorrect Currency Factor when the related payments have already been applied and closed?
- Is there a supported method to adjust only the financial impact (LCY/G/L) without reversing the original inventory transactions?
- Has anyone handled a similar situation where the Inventory Posting Setup had already changed after the original transactions were posted?
- What would be considered the safest and most auditable approach for year-end reconciliation in this scenario?
Any guidance or experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
