Hi Community,

In configuration package when I export the dimensions I see these 3 columns, may I know what do these do ?

I wonder if I change the dimensions, do I need to import these columns as well.

Thank you.

As mentioned you can either not include these fields in the configuration package, or if you included them, you can simply leave them blank.

In Business Central, the fields Parent ID, Dimension ID, and Dimension Value ID are primarily used to manage dimensions and their values for categorizing and analyzing financial data. These fields are also used in Configuration Packages to import, export, and map dimension data efficiently during data migration or setup processes.

When you export data without filtering the table fields, the system includes all columns in the exported file. However, these fields are not always necessary when importing data using a Configuration Package. You can either leave these columns empty (without any values) or exclude them from the exported sheet by filtering the table fields before exporting.

you can select the necessary fields you want and export it using this option:

Here, you only need to check the necessary fields in the Configuration Package so that only those fields are included in the export sheet.

This way, you won't have to enter data or leave the column blank unnecessarily.

The columns ParentId, DimensionId, and DimensionValueId in the configuration package for Dimensions are system-generated GUIDs used to maintain the hierarchy (ParentId), uniquely identify dimensions (DimensionId), and their values (DimensionValueId). You generally don’t need to import or modify them unless you're dealing with specific cases like maintaining links during migrations or updates.
