Assemble to Order Functionality in Business Central

Dear Team,
Greetings!!!

I would like to record negative adjustment lines for Assembly items within the Item Journal. However, I have only identified the “Assemble to Order” checkbox, which appears to function in relation to the “Applies to Entry” field.

Could someone kindly advise on the correct procedure for recording consumption by selecting a negative adjustment in the Item Journal? My objective is for Business Central to automatically register the consumption of Assembly BOM items by creating and posting the corresponding Assembly Orders seamlessly.

Thanks & looking forward for your kind response.

    Hello,
Business Central does not automatically create/post Assembly Orders from a Negative Adjustment line in the Item Journal. A negative adjustment only reduces the selected item inventory; it does not explode the Assembly BOM or consume components. The standard process is to create an Assembly Order for the assembly item, let BC bring the Assembly BOM lines, then post the Assembly Order; BC will post positive output for the assembled item and negative consumption for the components. If it is customer-driven, use Assemble-to-Order from the Sales Order line instead. The Assemble to Order checkbox you see is related to assemble-to-order flow/item entries, not a manual trigger to generate consumption from Item Journal. If you want “negative adjustment → auto-create assembly order → auto-post consumption,” that would need customization.
