Connecting to DB using vb.net

Hello

We moved to the online bc (Sylogist) version some months back.  When we had the on premise DB, I was able to create a form for quickly searching/viewing information from vendors/check ledger etc.  I would like to adapt that code to use the online version we are on.  Can someone describe how I may be able to change the connection method in the code?

Thank you

Your query is not clear. Are you trying to connect BC Saas to a different database on your server? In Saas, you cannot connect directly to a SQL or DB server, you have to use Azure Functions and then use API to retrieve or update data.

    Hello
My apologies.  I am not very knowledgeable on a lot of this.  Like I said, we had a on premise server before.  Now we work on BC online through a vendor named sylogist.  I logon through the https URL.  I managed to write vb.net code to connect to my on premises server and access the db (before when it was on premises) and I would like to be able to connect to the online version now and have my code work as before ( I know that I may need to do some modifications)

I was reading and someone posted a method using AL and JSON to publish a 'hello world' app to a sandbox test environment for example.

You mentioned that your environment is Online (SaaS)
If it is SaaS, it cannot be done. Including partners, there is no way to directly access the database like in the On-Pre environment.
This can only be done through API and Web Service.

    Thanks

In Business Central SaaS, you cannot connect directly to the database like in on-prem. Instead, you must use APIs or Web Services to access data. You can modify your VB.NET code to interact with BC Online using Azure Functions and REST APIs.

    Hi, good day
I hope this can help you, and give you some hints.

Losing Direct Access to SQL Server from Business Central SaaS
