Dynamics 365 FO on-premises

I have a customer in Finland who would like to move to D365 FO on-premises. They prefer on-premises because their data needs to be stored in Finland: After looking into documentation I could see that the  product life time of Finance + Operations (on-premises) software ends December 2027. Licensed customers who are in compliance with this policy are entitled to product support. Product support is available at a minimum through December 31, 2027.

I understood that D365 FO on-premises is following the Modern Life Policy but I am concerned about what will happen after the product life time ends in 2027?

Besides that, what is Microsoft alternative solution for customers who have data location restrictions?

I would highly appreciate your advise here

    Hi AdrianM,

it's just the standard 10 year lifecycle policy (from the release date) that Microsoft has for many of their products.

Most likely the product is supported also after 2027 one way or another, but you will get the official answer by reaching out to Microsoft.

Also, if you read what MS says about the Modern support policy (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/policies/modern) they promise just 12 months of support for any version. So to me it seems that you get a better promise for the on-prem than for the cloud version.

About alternative solutions for customers who have data location restrictions: it always depends on the restriction, but MS provides cloud services (also Dynamics 365) in many locations. Also in country specific clouds such as China or Switzerland (but not Finland at the moment, at least for Dynamics 365). However Finland is in the EU and many legal restrictions will treat the whole EU region as whole. But of course there are scenarios (military, perhaps banking) where the data really needs to reside in specific country. Perhaps it's also good to discuss with the customer where their need for the data residency comes form. Is it regulatory requirements, is it their customers' requirements, is it something else?
