Providing delegated admin access to partner for Business Central.

Hello,

We are looking to migrate our on-premises Great Plains system to Business Central and have hired a Partner to help with this. The Partner is requiring us to provide delegated admin access to our tenant to buy subscriptions to Business Central, but according to the documentation this will give the Partner full access to all the services in our tenant including emails and data. We are reluctant to do so. We also understand that as a Customer we cannot purchase Business Central directly and have to go through a Partner.

Is there a way to give a Partner limited access to the tenant so they can purchase subscriptions to Business Central and configure it for us, without giving them complete admin access? Has anyone encountered this issue before?

Thank you,

Sumeet

    Hi

I am sure other people will provide more info.

But I think (only think) you can deactivate delegated admin in your environment. This way your partner cannot access your BC using delegate admin user. The downside is you need to pay for one full license user in order for your partner to work in your environment. Then you can limit access of this user.

MahGah is correct.  They don't have to have Delegated Admin to sell you licenses, but they will not be able to assist in any setup or troubleshooting unless you take on the responsibility of setting up and managing a user for them in your environment (licenses and all).

Thank you. When you say "setting up and managing a user" does that mean going into Microsoft 365 admin center and creating user(s) there and assigning licenses to user(s) there? So, once that is done will they be able to move forward and help us with setting up/configuring BC for us? What would be the role(s) that would need to be assigned to the partner user(s) for them to do their work?

Yes, that is exactly right.  I would recommend giving them the 'Dynamics 365 Administrator' role, along with a full license.  They would then need to be synched into Business Central like a regular user and given 'SUPER' permission set.

    Thanks,
