Upgrade to Dynamics 365 Business Central Essentials on-premises - how to buy additional license modules such as tables and reports?

We plan to upgrade our financial application to use Dynamics 365 Business Central (on-premises).  The existing application uses NAV4.  We plan to procure the Business Central Essentials user licenses as this type already covers enough capabilities.  Also, our existing application has customized 66 tables, 10 forms, and 150 reports. More tables, forms, and reports will be customized for the upgraded application.

Can we ask what should we be aware of when getting the new Business Central Essentials user licenses?  How can we purchase more rights to customize more tables, forms, and reports (We already purchased a few Business Central Essentials and they only provide 10, 100, and 100 rights to customize table, form, and report objects respectively)?  Thanks for any tips.

I have the same question (0)

This is also the reason why SaaS is now preferred, and the On-Premises version will add a lot of other costs.

Everything around Business Central licenses and rights to use additional application objects for Dynamics NAV  / Business Central is solely handled by Dynamics partner. So you have no other choice than to involve a partner to assist you with your issue.

Thanks for all your responses. They all provide valuable information.

For DAniele's reply, may I further know how you retrieve those package information? Are there any online sources that we could refer to, or are they solely provided by the Microsoft resellers/partners? I found it is specially difficult to find information about on-premises licenses. Also, I think we might need to purchase specific number of customization rights as we need far more rights than provided by the packages you mentioned.

In addition, the partner did not inform (or remind) us about the need to buy those rights for the upgrade of customizations (hence we bought those BC Essentials licenses without enough rights, which is why we ended up posting a question here).

    Thanks alot!

Hi, As mentioned by the two experts above, this needs to be contacted with your partners.
When a partner creates a license, the range of the Object ID can be set.

You can buy according to your needs. In my memory, Table and Codeunit are more expensive, while tables and reports are cheaper.

If you have made changes to the standard code, you also need to pay attention to the following information

Dynamics 365 Business Central Universal code initiative: https://yzhums.com/30559/

In addition, if you upgrade to the SaaS version, objects (50000~99999) are free.

Another thing to note is that the life cycle of each version of BC is only 18 months. It is recommended to upgrade to the latest version before the end.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

The problem here can be that the version of NAV you are using is out of main stream support and there can be trouble with issueing a new license to you for that specific version.

But your partner should be able to help you sort this out at least if you have a current BREP agreement.

    hi

When purchasing Business Central Essentials user licenses, it's important to be aware that there are limitations on the number of customizations that can be made to tables, forms, and reports. As you mentioned, the Essentials user licenses provide 10, 100, and 100 rights to customize table, form, and report objects, respectively.

If you anticipate that you will need to customize more than these limits, you may want to consider purchasing additional rights to customize. Microsoft offers the following options for purchasing additional rights:

Team Member Extension: This allows you to purchase additional table and report customization rights for Team Member users. Each Team Member Extension provides an additional 5 table customization rights and 5 report customization rights.

Extended Pack: This provides additional table, form, and report customization rights for all users. Each Extended Pack provides an additional 20 table customization rights, 20 form customization rights, and 20 report customization rights.

Premium Pack: This provides the same customization rights as the Extended Pack, as well as additional functionality for Manufacturing and Service Management.

You can purchase these additional rights through a Microsoft Dynamics partner or reseller.

When upgrading from NAV4 to Business Central, it's important to be aware that there may be significant differences in functionality and user interface. You may want to work with a Dynamics NAV partner or consultant to help with the migration and any necessary customizations. Additionally, you may need to evaluate and update any third-party add-ons or integrations that you currently use.
