Co production and families

Hello again everyone,

Question regarding co production or by products.

We have five categories of items (100's, 200's, 300's, 400's, 700's), under each categories are items.

EXAMPLE

100's = 101,102,103, etc

200's = 201, 202, 203, etc

300's = 301, 302, 303, etc

400's = 401, 402, 403, etc

and so on and so fourth.... think you get the picture

- When I produce a 100's level item in turn it will produce a smaller percentage of a 400's level item. 78% 100's and 22% 400's.

Any idea of how to so set this up in the system?

Your input is always greatly appreciated! Thanks again.

    Hi

    Sorry to ask for more info. But do you mean you use 100's to produce 400's. or do you mean 100's and 400's have similar BOM but 400's uses more raw materials?

    Thanks

    Thanks for asking!

    My BOM items: 901,902,903,904

    Item 101 bom: 901,902... When I produce item 101 the scrap in turn will give me item 401.

    I hope this helps.... kind of like a by product

    Jeff,

    You could create a Production Family which creates Item 100's and an Item 400, based on the BOM and Routing, individually. A production family is a group of individual items whose relationship is based on the similarity of their manufacturing processes. By forming production families, some items can be manufactured twice or more in one production, which will optimize material consumption. The Output of the Family will be that of the 100 and 400 Item from the material. So on the Production Order you choose Type Family and the Family Code. I want 100 units of the Family so my 100 create 78 units and 400 creates 22 units.

    In the Quantity field on the Family page, you enter the quantity that will be produced when the whole family has been manufactured once.

    Now, I read an article about By-Product and you could have your Partner create the extension for this. Click the link and it outlines the changes.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Thanks Jeff for extra info. I think Steven provided better answer. The only challenge with Production Family is you cannot plan it through MRP.
