Missing options: Production BOM, Item variants etc

When I go to search, I am missing seemingly random functionality. For example, I am following a guide on the manufacturing functionality and it states that I need to access a production bom. When I go to search for production boms (in the search), there is no option. Another example, I am trying to add a variant for an item card, there is no /variant/ option under /actions/ on the item card despite the Microsoft guide and screenshot depicting it there.

Why is my UI substantially different from every guide and other example I see? It's extremely frustrating that Microsoft Documentation does not match at all with Microsoft Software. How the hell is this supposed to work?

BC is getting constantly updated so its possible those guides are several years old referencing an older version.

When I go to search for production boms (in the search), there is no option.

Is your BC license or trial Essential or Premium? Only the premium version of BC has the manufacturing module. When I search for production boms in a Premium BC company I can see the production boms page. In an Essential company, I don't.

Its under Related -> Item -> Variants. You can also use the search function as it will search action buttons on the current page you're on as well.

Hi, For the first question: Change which features are displayed

For the second question, every time Microsoft updates, it may change the location of the action. If you have a hard time finding it, you can search actions in the search box (Tell Me)

if you are using a standard bc trial tenant, you don't have premium license to access modules including manufacturing and services. that could be a reason you don't see those features.

if you are using paid saas bc and have the premium license, it could be your IT has blocked you to access some features.

I am going to assume you have/need the Premium license if you are wanting to use the Manufacturing functionality of Business Central.

Do a search for "Company Information", scroll to the last section called "User Experience" and change the Experience field from "Essential" to "Premium". When you close the Company Information page, Business Central will reload and the Manufacturing capabilities will now be available in your tenant.
