How do you paste in more than one row in General Journals or Account Schedules?

I see instructions for copy/paste into General Journals and Account Schedules, however this doesn't work for me.

I am using Business Central.

For the General Journals, I can "edit in excel" so there is a workaround there (although copy/paste would be much preferred), but there is no such "edit in excel" option in Account Schedules when I create/edit the row formats - and copy/paste to/from excel would make building custom reports so much easier.

I am selecting all of the rows and then CTRL-V (after copying from an excel workbook) and nothing happens.  If I put the cursor in the first field "row no." and choose CTRL-V, I can only paste one row at a time.  If I select all the rows (as the instructions say), and then select the first row, the row selections are removed.  Either way, I get the message "You cannot paste 48 rows in the selected 1 row".  Same problem whether I'm creating a general journal entry or working in account schedules.

Frustrating! I'm sure there is a simple trick I'm missing, it cannot be this hard.  Any ideas?

    Hi

First you need to make sure your header in Excel file is exactly matching header in BC. See below. The best practice is to create one batch then hide all the fields you do not need and organize the rest the way you want it. Then use Open in Excel, then delete Batch Name column from the file. Then use that file as a template.

Second make sure the BC page (like general journal) has no extra info in it. Always delete the first line.

Then should work. See below video

Thanks so much for that reply!  Have you had any luck with copy/paste into account schedules?

    Thanks again,

I just tried and it was success with a few tricks. See below

    1) You need to hide all fields that you need to select the check box (such as Bold) in account schedule

    2) After paste looks like nothing has happened. But you need to go out of the page and go back in.

    I hope this help

Thanks so much for that video!  Unfortunately I'm doing exactly as I see you're doing, and unfortunately get the "You cannot paste 31 rows in the selected 1 rows." message each time, and when I close and reopen the page, no change.  Maddening!!

HOWEVER, I notice I can paste a few rows at a time if I select the exact number of rows I'm pasting in.  For whatever reason, it will not paste in the entire 31 rows, but I was able to break it into two parts and paste it in that way after selecting the rows that I'm replacing.  Doing it this way, the data is overridden and I see the new pasted info without having to reopen the page.

It's a fickle tool!! Thanks again for that illustration, it was very helpful!!

    Hi

Thanks for the feedback and sorry that the BC does not behave the way in my video. What is your BC version? I wonder if BC version has something to do with it. Also, are you on-prem or saas?

    Thanks

    Thanks,

    Hi

This is the exact version I used. I wonder why is working on my environment and not yours.

    Hello,

Please select the entire 1st row and delete it, and then try pasting. If any field in the row contains a value you will get the error message about not being allowed to paste more than n rows in the selected 1 row. To fix delete the entire row. Sometimes its not clear that the row has existing date. If a row contains data you can paste to replace the same number of rows that you have highlighted which is why it works as you have mentioned.

I just set up a new company code and Business Central is not letting me post more than 1 row at a time.  I do not get any errors, I only get the first row of my subset to paste.

I have had no issues with my existing company code and set up.  Is there a feature that needs to be turned on?
