Data migration: queries on work templates and location directives

hi

we are moving wax configurations from one test environment to another (d365 on premise).but one area we keep having issues around is Work templates and location directives, specifically the queries built on top of the templates

the general template header and detail information migrates fine via entities, but is there a specific entity that deals with the Query data? or how do we move this data?

thanks

mal

I have the same question (0)

    Hello Raff,

There are no special data entities for Queries, the queries are exported together with main data from Work templates/Location directives.

So, the data entity for Work templates should export also the query.

It is recommended to use Package as export option.

    Thanks,

    Alina

    Hi Raff,

In case you would like to import/export the associated queries you need to ensure that you are using XML as file format during your export. This will ensure that the query is being included as part of your export. Once the XML message has been exported/updated ensure that this is also being updated via a data package. After this proceed with the import of your package. This approach will ensure that your work templates/location directives and associated queries will be imported successfully.

    Any questions, let me know.

    Thanks,

    Alice

    Hi Raff,

A small additional message related to the reply from Alice. The query will be exported as hexadecimal value. If you are trying to use Excel as file format, the query value might be too large and some Excel versions can truncate the query which will cause 'bad container' errors on runtime. So, like Alice mentioned, please use XML to ensure the full query will be imported in the target environment.
