Hi,
We get an error when we try to ship a partial quantity of a sales line, and there is a production order reservation for the balance. For example, we have a sales line for a quantity of 10, and we have 5 in inventory to ship and 5 reserved against a production order. We go to ship 5 and we get an error. So we have to cancel the reservation, ship the order, and then re-input the reservation. We were told that this is base BC but I would like to confirm that this is really true.
Thank you!

Yes — what you're experiencing is standard behavior in Dynamics 365 Business Central when dealing with inventory reservations and partial shipments on sales orders. Manually remove the reservation

    Thanks

@Ramesh Kumar Do you know why this only happens with production order reservations? Purchase order reservations do not cause the same error.

If you are unsure, you can ask the developer to debug whether it is a standard control.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Yes, it is true that in Business Central, you may encounter an error when trying to ship a partial quantity of a sales line if there is a production order reservation for the remaining quantity. This behavior is part of the base functionality of Business Central. The system requires you to cancel the reservation, ship the available quantity, and then re-enter the reservation for the remaining quantity.
The reason this issue occurs specifically with production order reservations and not with purchase order reservations is due to the way Business Central handles reservations and inventory tracking. Production orders involve more complex tracking and reservation mechanisms because they are tied to the manufacturing process, which includes multiple stages and dependencies. This complexity can lead to stricter reservation rules and error handling compared to purchase orders, which are generally simpler and involve direct inventory transactions.

If this process is causing significant issues, you might consider discussing potential customizations or workarounds with your Business Central partner or support team.
