Relogin to continue using SharePoint integration feature

We have Dynamics 365 setup with SharePoint integration (all cloud, no on-premise). One of our users went to the Documents tab on a record, and got the following error message: "Relogin required. Please relogin to continue using SharePoint integration feature."

This error message doesn't show up in any Google searches. Does anyone know what may have caused this error? The user was able to exit Dynamics, then go back in and the Documents tab worked fine. So, it seems it was a transient error, but trying to understand what may have caused it.

    Hello anthony56,

You're encountering a somewhat rare but understandable error message when dealing with cloud-based Dynamics 365 and SharePoint integration. The "Relogin required" message, while not widely documented, points to a temporary breakdown in the authentication flow between Dynamics 365 and SharePoint.
Here's a breakdown of the potential causes and why it's a transient issue:

    Understanding the Error:
    • Authentication Token Expiration:
      • Dynamics 365 and SharePoint rely on authentication tokens to establish secure communication.
      • These tokens have expiration times. If the user's authentication token for SharePoint expired while they were using Dynamics 365, they would encounter this error.
    • Session Timeout:
      • Similar to token expiration, the user's session with either Dynamics 365 or SharePoint might have timed out.
    • Transient Network Issues:
      • Temporary network glitches or connectivity problems could have interrupted the authentication flow.
    • Microsoft Service Issues:
      • While less likely, there could have been a temporary, localized issue with the Microsoft services responsible for authentication between Dynamics 365 and SharePoint.
    • Browser-Related Issues:
      • Although unlikely, a temporary browser issue such as a cookie problem could have interrupted the authentication.

    Why It's Transient:
    • Automatic Token Refresh:
      • The authentication systems are designed to automatically refresh tokens when they are about to expire.
      • When the user exited Dynamics 365 and logged back in, the system likely refreshed the tokens, resolving the issue.
    • Session Re-establishment:
      • Logging out and back in re-established the user's sessions with both Dynamics 365 and SharePoint.

    Troubleshooting and Prevention:
    1. Browser Maintenance:
      • Encourage users to regularly clear their browser cache and cookies.
      • Ensure users are using supported and up-to-date browsers.
    2. Network Stability:
      • While you can't control all network issues, ensure your organization's network infrastructure is stable.
      • If possible, monitor network connectivity for any recurring issues.
    3. Microsoft Service Health:
      • Regularly check the Microsoft 365 Service Health dashboard for any reported outages or issues.
    4. User Training:
      • Educate users that if they encounter this error, logging out and back in is usually sufficient to resolve it.
    5. Monitor for Recurrence:
      • While it was a transient error, keep an eye out for any recurrence.
      • If multiple users experience this issue, it might indicate a more persistent problem.
    6. SharePoint and Dynamics 365 Health:
      • Although the sharepoint integration is cloud to cloud, it is worth while to check the health of both the dynamics 365 environment, and the sharepoint enviroment.

In essence, the "Relogin required" message is a result of a temporary interruption in the authentication process. The fact that it was resolved by logging out and back in indicates that the underlying systems are functioning correctly.

    Hi,

It seems to be something related to the Outlook plugin "Dynamics 365 for Outlook". For some reason, when the session is lost in that plugin, an error appears in the "Documents" tab. My colleagues have experienced this issue quite a few times, and even though all other 365 services continue to work correctly, this is the only place where the session token expires.

This must be a mistake on Microsoft’s part, as it’s inexplicable that everything else in Dynamics 365 works properly, and likewise, SharePoint services continue to function without any issues.

The solution they shared with me—after discovering it by accident—was to open the plugin and sign in again. After doing this, you simply reload the page, and you can then access the documents section without any problem.

    Regards,
