Hi:

A lot of our items have a base unit of measure, such as "EA" for each. These items need to be accounted for, within the unit of measure called CS for "case".

In Inventory, how would we accomplish placing a base unit of measure within the CS unit of measure?

On the Item List/Record, go to the Item Units of Measure List. From there you can associate the different Item Units of Measure to the Base Unit of Measure for the Item. Here is an example:

PCS is the Base Unit of Measure, there are 10 PCS in a Box, there are 20 Boxes in a Case, so 200 PCS, and there are 40 Cases on a Pallet, so 8,000 PCS.

As a common rule, the Base Unit of Measure should always be the smallest unit, otherwise you start getting into fractional inventory.

So Base Unit of Measure is your lowest unit of measure and typically how you want to count for physical inventory. As Ben stated, you can setup an unlimited number of units of measure that all related back to the base. You can purchase, sale, price in different units of measure as long and there is an 'item unit of measure' record defining the relationship to base unit of measure.

I dont use multiple units, I require the sales unit of measure to be automatically populated or created. Is there a way to do so.

Or if we can disable sales unit of measure requirement for sale orders processing?

If you only have one Unit of Measure for the Item, that will also be your Sales Unit of Measure. There should be no additional steps necessary to do what you are asking.

If you do have multiple Units of Measure for an Item, then you use the Sales Unit of Measure field to select your preferred unit for Sales.

I only have one Unit of Measure for the item, but still being asked to provide sales unit of measure while doing sales order processing.

Generally, when you enter the Base Unit of Measure, the purchase and sales unit of measure fields get automatically populated. If you imported data and these fields are empty, that is why you are being prompted. Please updated the sales unit of measure field on your items and that will fix the issue.

Hi Kim,

Items are being created from Dataverse. The Base Unit of Measure is populated through Item Template but this doesnt update sales unit of measure?
