Default Inventory status for Production orders

Is there a way to setup to have a default inventory status for produced items?

So, when the report as finished is posted, the stock that became available is automatically set to "Production" Inventory status for example.

This is to avoid sales order reservation before we have moved the stock from Outbound to a warehouse location.

I've tried to set the Inventory status on the Formula header, but this doesn't work. It is still automatically set to Available.

Any of you have an idea how to set this up?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

Maybe you can use the process of quarantine order?

That would add additional steps to the process. And to be honest, I tried to work with Quarantine orders once, but it was not that efficient.

    Hi Tamira,

I think it is not possible to configure a default inventory status for the produced items. What is the reason that you want to avoid a sales order reservation?

We would like to avoid reservations on the Outbound location. The reservation should take place as soon as it is put-away / moved to the actual warehouse location.

    Hi Tamira,

    Few questions.

    1. Are you using the warehouse app in order to report the production order as finished?

    2. Are your items batch controlled?

    3. How does your movement process look like, will it execute finished good putaway work or are you performing a manual move or a movement by template action for instance?

    Hi Tamira!

You can use the form "Default item status" (Warehouse management / Setup / Inventory / Default item status). Put there needed Item number, Module = Inventory, and Default inventory status ID = Production.

And then after creating the Production order for this item, in inventory dimensions you will see defined inventory status.

    Hanna

    Hi Alice,

    1. No. We report as finished in D365 on the production order itself.

    2. Yes, most of them.

    3. We do a manual movement by template.

    Hi Hanna,

Thanks for your reply. I was looking into this after posting this and several google attempts!

I see it working with the Default item status. Do you have any idea if this could have a (negative) impact on other standard warehouse processes?

    Best regards, Tamira

    Hi Tamira!

If I understand correctly you want to keep in the Sales order line the Inventory Status = Available. So, after Report as finished you will need to change inventory status for the on-hand inventory from Production to Available. This additional step in the process is the only impact that I see.

    Hi Tamira,

Another way to achieve this could be to have an inventory status change batch job running against your output location that would flip the inventory status to whatever you need. Disclaimer: depending on how you do reservation and the frequency of the batch job, it would be possible for an item to get reserved before it flipped.

We have asked similar questions in the past and the functionality in this area is unfortunately lacking, even with the default item status described in other responses, as that requires manual addition of lines for any item that you want managed in this way.

In our case, we wanted the ability to use location profile or location to define a default inventory status, so that any items moved into specific areas would automatically be changed to a different status. We ended up developing a customization around this.
