Hi,

Can anyone guide me on the following. I keep getting a Forbidden 403 error message: I have tried all the usual connections and access issues but no luck. Anyone come across this issue and is there something obvious I've not yet checked?

Thanks

Error details: 'The dynamic operation request to API 'excelonlinebusiness' operation 'GetTable' failed with status code 'Forbidden'.

I apologize if this is obvious, but you have confirmed that you can access the file in question through excel online with the credentials being used in the Power Automate connector, right?

If you have verified that, is there any chance that the file is open or locked by someone else in the organization while you are trying to read it? The error code stating forbidden points to this being an access issue more than anything else.

    Hello KT-10031805-0,

A 403 Forbidden error when using the "Add a row into a table" action in Power Automate with Excel Online Business indicates that the user account running the flow doesn't have the necessary permissions to access the Excel file or the table within it.

Here's a comprehensive breakdown of troubleshooting steps:
    1. Connection and Authentication:
    • Verify Connection:
      • Double-check that the Excel Online Business connection used in your flow is valid.
      • Go to Power Automate > Data > Connections and ensure the connection is listed and shows "Connected."
      • If there are any errors, delete the connection and recreate it.
    • User Account Permissions:
      • The user account associated with the Excel Online Business connection must have sufficient permissions to:
        • Access the SharePoint site or OneDrive folder where the Excel file is stored.
        • Open and modify the Excel file.
        • Access and modify the specific table within the Excel file.
      • Ensure the user is not just a viewer, but has edit rights.
    • SharePoint/OneDrive Permissions:
      • If the Excel file is in SharePoint, verify the user's permissions at the site, library, and file level.
      • If the file is in OneDrive, confirm the user has appropriate access to the folder and file.
    2. File and Table Issues:
    • File Location and Accessibility:
      • Ensure the Excel file exists in the specified location.
      • Confirm that the file is not locked or open in another application.
      • If the file is in a shared location, verify that the user has access to that location.
    • Table Name and Existence:
      • Double-check that the table name you've entered in the Power Automate action is correct.
      • Open the Excel file and verify that the table exists and is named as you specified.
      • If the table was recently renamed, the Power Automate connection might not have picked up the change.
    • Table Formatting:
      • Ensure the data is in an excel table. If the data is just listed on a sheet, it will not work.
    • File Corruption:
      • In rare cases, the Excel file might be corrupted.
      • Try creating a new Excel file and table to see if the issue persists.
    3. Power Automate Specific Issues:
    • Recreate the Action:
      • Sometimes, the action might become corrupted.
      • Delete the "Add a row into a table" action and recreate it.
    • Test with a Simple Flow:
      • Create a very simple flow that only includes the "Add a row into a table" action.
      • This helps to isolate whether the issue is with the specific action or with other parts of your flow.
    • Service Outages:
      • Check the Microsoft 365 Service Health dashboard for any reported outages or issues with Excel Online Business or Power Automate.
    • Clear Browser Cache:
      • Clearing your browser cache can resolve some authentication issues.
    4. Advanced Troubleshooting:
    • SharePoint/OneDrive API Permissions:
      • If your organization has strict security policies, there might be limitations on the API permissions granted to Power Automate.
      • Consult with your SharePoint or OneDrive administrator to verify the necessary permissions.
    • Conditional Access Policies:
      • Conditional Access policies in Azure Active Directory can sometimes block access to resources.
      • Review any Conditional Access policies that might be affecting the user account or the Power Automate connection.
    • Network Issues:
      • Although less likely, network issues can sometimes cause intermittent 403 errors.
      • Try running the flow from a different network.

    Steps to Take:
    1. Double-check the connection and the user's permissions. This is the most common cause.
    2. Verify the file and table names are correct and that the file is accessible.
    3. Try recreating the action and testing with a simple flow.
    4. If you're using SharePoint, check the SharePoint permissions.
    5. If you have complex security policies, investigate API permissions and Conditional Access policies.

By systematically working through these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the 403 Forbidden error.
