Batch Jobs replacement

Hi,

We noticed that several batch jobs in D365 FO were created by users who have since left the organization. As far as I know, when a user is disabled, the related batch jobs stop running, and if the user is deleted, those batch jobs are removed entirely.

I understand that the “Run by” field can be updated, but our goal is to eliminate the reference to the original “Created by” user. From what I recall, this would require code changes to replace that reference.

However,  our approach is to replace the old batch jobs with new ones created under the admin account. My plan is as follows:

  • Use the “Copy batch” functionality under the admin account.

  • Ensure the setup (occurrence and all related configurations) matches the original job.

  • Set the new job’s status to Waiting.

  • Withhold the previous batch jobs.

  •

Is there anything I should be aware of when following this approach—particularly for system-related batch jobs?

Thank you,

    Hi,

I cant think of anything. The only thing is that copying doesnt copy everything, but I am not 100% sure. So I would copy one and check what was copied and what not.

I would check for the parameters in the batch job and the recurrence.
Bonus hint: check the save job to history. You may want only the errors, otherwise your batch job history might blow up your space, unless you have a batch job that deletes the batch job history.

    Kind regards, Adis

    Hi,

Your approach is the correct one. In addition to the reply from Adis, it should copy all, but there might be a check on batches that there can be only one instance. I have seen this in an ISV solution and a customization in the past.
