Cheat sheet for Accounts Receivable

Hi,

I do accounting and my company abruptly switched from Quickbooks to GP with no training for us :/. I'm not super technical and am struggling with learning on my own fast.

I could really use a Cheat Sheet that shows how to do common AR tasks, does anyone have something like this?

I did find this below which is of some help, but could use a lot more.

I have the dummies book but it's too general, so far these docs below are about the most useful as I can quickly jump to things I need to know

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-gp/financials/receivables-management

but still not as useful as I'd like.

thanks in advance and for any other help!

It is unfortunate that your GP Partner has not offered any assistance and or training as part of the migration.  I would suggest reaching out to the project sponsor (your primary person responsible for the migration) and find out if any training is going to be provided.  Dynamics GP is not a 'install' and run application.

Did they do any data migration or are you starting from scratch?

Keep posting the community, it is a great source of information and support.

Thanks for the reply. Yeh we did have a person that very briefly provided minimal training to multiple groups. It is what it is with this company.  I'm fine to learn alone just looking for more quick reference / cheat sheet / cook book style info to get me by in the meantime.

    yes some.

I had a similar thing happen to me, kind of in reverse.  I walked into a department where everyone that had any experience or training had left.  The company hadn't done much training at go-live, which I think contributed to the exodus.

A generic checklist is by nature going to be at a high level.  I survived by building my own cheat sheets, using OneNote.  I reviewed many, many YouTube postings on Accounts Receivable, Cash Receipts, and receivables management to develop an initial understanding of how RM and GP accounts receivable work.  I pasted links for those that were most instructive into my OneNote AR notebook to refer to later.   From there, I developed and recorded company specific processes, inserting text and screenshots, pasting web links, and shared with other users (no, this is not an advertisement for OneNote).

I still have my OneNote notebook of AR and Cash receipt processes, and refer to it from time to time when I encounter a process I haven't done for a while.  It has been used to train new employees in how to manage the accounts receivable processes so was well worth the time it took to develop.

thank you very much for your reply.

I have my notebook of written notes and bookmarks but yes what you suggest is a good idea and what I will move to.

I wonder if you might be willing to share any of that? No worries if it's rough around the edges or very simple.

    thank you!

I am willing, just will have to scrub identifying or propriety information from content.  Can I send it to you offline?

    Good day,

You should ask your partner or IT person to set up a Test environment, here you can set up your own training schedule as per your company and you wouldn't cause any issues with the production environment.

    Regards

    Rosemary

Try your luck on the GPUG forums and libraries. That GP user group has been around for about 10 years and has tons of good answers and registered webinars. You can register for a 30-days trial, but best would be subscribe for your company an annual pass.

    www.gpug.com

and also DynamicsUser.net could be helpful, though they only recently re-added the GP user forums.

Else, as others suggested, there are tons of training videos out there on YT.
