Changing decimal places on Units of measure

Hi

We have a situation where the Kg unit of measure was set up to 8 decimal places!

This has caused rounding issues where we try to post a journal and we get error messages like:

10.25 cannot be picked because only 10.25 is available from the inventory.

Now I know how to fix the issue on a case by case process (do a count journal for 10.25 which will update on hand to 2 decimal places).

What I really want to know is can I update the decimal places on the Kg UOM to 2 without causing any unforeseen problems?

Cheers

Steve

As long as you clean up all your on hands (InventSum) records to 2 decimals, you can change the decimal precision from 8 to 2.

I would ask why it was set to 8 decimals though.  Check your BOM's, do you have an BOM lines that consume .001 kg or something very small like this?  Sometimes people think increasing the decimal precision of the unit is the right way to get their BOM calculations to show correctly.  In reality, you should always set the inventory unit to the smallest unit you will ever need to consume in.   So maybe this item should have an inventory unit of grams, and purchase / sales units of Kg's.

If you do have BOM's that consume in very small amounts, and you change the decimal precision to 2, you will get an error when trying to post a production picking list.

I have exactly the same issue, although our solution will have to be different.

We just went live on R2 CU7. We have stock that MUST be to 4DP. The stock units are set to 4DP. Stock was migrated to 4DP.

How do we pick and pack to 4DP?

0.04 cannot be picked because only 0.04 is available from the inventory.

Where is the parameter that sets the pick, pack & deliver process to honour the unit parameters? I cannot believe that MS would allow you to configure stock in a way that it cannot use?

Failing that (and assuming there is no logic to MS approach) what are my other options?

Just a thought as well. That infolog message is beyond ironic!! To pay for development time on this would be a slap in the face.

    Hi Steven,

Were you able to get a solution for this??

I am facing the exact same issue.

    Thanks
