Financial reporting, row definition - is there a method to export meta data?

Hi,

We are planning to build a row definition with main account hierarchies in Financial Report Designer. Is there any way to export the metadata from FRD (for DW purposes)? I know Financial reporting data is in own database, but just wondering if someone has build some custom solution.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

You can export all of your reports, rows, columns via the building block function / button.

This generates a file that you can then import in another system or use as a backup, etc.

Have you checked out this feature?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi,

I tried it. I was able to export it only as a TDBX-file. This is totally strange suffix to me and it's in unreadable format.

It may be possible to import it to another FRD, but not to another application like Excel or similar.

    Hi migi111,

    Right.

You will get a tdbx file that you can export and import in the management reporter.

You cannot open it and manipulate it but use it as a backup in case you want to make some changes to the management reporter or test things in another environment, etc.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi,

Ok, I see. But that is kind of useless, because like I wrote earlier: "Is there any way to export the metadata from FRD (for DW purposes)?", I need to export the data to external system so that they can use it to build a proper data warehouse solution.

    Hi,

The tdbx file is the only thing that you can directly get/extract. Nothing else is directly accessible for us for DW purposes.

You might consider Power BI and the Azure Datalake as alternative reporting options compared to the MR.

I think there is no other option available to you.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Did you ever get a solution or work around for this? We're in a very similar situation, where we want to maintain the row definitions in the Financial Report Designer, but then have them available in other reporting tools so we have consistent definitions in use.

Did anyone find a workaround for this?  Not thrilled to have to update in FR and PowerBI and for our enterprise data warehouse with the same structure changes every time something changes.
