Migrating Historical Activities to a new CRM Instance

Hi

I would like to check whether there is a way to migrate over historical activity data from one CRM instance (i.e. the Online 2016 version) to a new Dynamics 365 instance.

I'm thinking I can export activities as excel and import them back into the new instance. Given that all relevant opportunities, organisations and contacts are imported over beforehand. Could I confirm that this can work?

My concern is that when I export as a spreadsheet email data, the description field contains all the HTML present in the email body. How would that export over?

You cant migrate closed record, so it need to be migrated as open and then set to close.

You can refer for more detail about all other such entities here:

Kingswaysoft does make work easier by internally looking at the primary field - so if you have license of that then it will be the easiest option.

    Thanks,

    Hi Mike,

You can try the kingswaysoft for data migration with SSIS.

We also use this one, First, we try to create some console and excel but when data is migrated we found some issues like CC and BCC are missing and very laborious to get. so we use Kingsways with SSIS.

And have you tried looking at Scribe to do the data migration?  It maybe is able to do some of the things for you.

    Thanks

    Thanks prt33k

When you say status of activities, do you mean that when you're importing to a new instance, does it reset to pending? I hope it doesn't try to send all the email activities imported.

Will importing and creating activities also effect the timestamp the activity is recorded? Will it all be reset to the period the activity has been created?

    Hi Mike,

Importing activities is tricky. Please consider following:

    1) The status of activities - Send/Pending Send etc

    2) PartyList - It has reference to multiple entity type

    3) Conpleted On date for task etc - this cant be migrated and is set when entity is mark completed

As far as description is considered -that will migrate without issues.

    Thanks,
