Hi,

What can I use to build reports? I was told to use BIDS, but that looks like is from 2008. Is there something else I can use now?

I was told I could use now SSDT-BI, SQL Server Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 instead of BIDS. But do I need anything additional installed??

I basically want to do what this guy did in below tutorial using BIDS

From the SQL 2012 media you can install and use SSDT which installs VS2010 - from there you can install the CRM Report Authoring Extension to use create FetchXML based reports.

    Thanks Jason!

    I have downloaded SSDT-BI

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

Can I use that with the CRM Report Authoring Extension that you highlighted?

Report builder is an easy tool to use, just point at your filtered views (if you're on premise) - www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

    HTH - so I don't event need SSDI-BI (www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx)

and can just download report builder you listed above?

Yep, but it's a database tool, so you'll need to be on-premise rather than an online version of crm. When you've built your report you can import the rdl file into SSRS. Depending on how you want to display the report  and how your environment is configured there may be some hoops to jump through with ensuring the report can see the database connection but thats a whole other can of worms.

    Thanks Phil,

In regards using FetchXML. I read the article you included and it states I would need Authoring Extension to use with BIDS. It looks like BIDS was decommissioned. Do you know if I can just downloaded SSDT-BI (www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx) and then download the Authoring Extension. Will those 2 be enough and will they be compatible?

Sorry, don't know for sure. BIDS is a cut down VS environment so worth a shot.

    Hi Donyc,

I would recommend you to watch the video "Microsoft Dynamics CRM Troubleshooting Errors When Viewing Reports" available at

which will talk you through troubleshooting techniques and examples of Fetchxml reporting issues and includes a description of the required components to create and edit fetchxml (first demo starts at 3:20)

Please let us know if this helps.

Thank you for using Microsoft Dynamics.
