I have a project-based scenario where a sponsor brings a group of students to enroll in a course. Currently, we manage this in Business Central’s Jobs module by creating one task line for the course and adding a single planning line representing all students enrolled (e.g., 5 students in one course).

However, in real-life scenarios, we may have cases where 10 students are enrolled, and we want to:

Apply a discount to 1 or 2 students, o

Waive the fee entirely for 1 or 2 students

I would like to know how this can be handled in the standard Jobs module:

Is this functionality available out of the box in Business Central?
If not, what customization would be required.
Specifically, how can we apply individual discounts or zero charges for selected students while still billing the sponsor for the remaining one

Please advise on the feasibility and possible approach for implementing this.

No, standard Business Central Jobs module functionality does not support applying individual discounts or fee waivers to specific "sub-units" (like individual students) when using a single planning line for a group. The Jobs module is designed to manage costs and billing at the job task or planning line level.

Customization would be required.

Possible Approach (Customization):

Multiple Planning Lines per Course: Instead of one planning line for "5 students," create individual planning lines for each student within the course task. This allows you to apply discounts/zero prices per line.

Custom Fields/Logic: Add custom fields (e.g., "Student ID," "Discount Type," "Waive Fee") to the Job Planning Line to track student-specific details. AL code would then modify the line price based on these fields.

Billing Automation: Custom code would be needed to automate the billing to the sponsor, either by consolidating charges from all student lines or by generating separate invoices if required

This scenario is common for training/education providers and almost always necessitates customization to manage individual student pricing within the Jobs module.

On the Project planning line you do have discount fields which can be used as amount or %. If you want to have show separate line then create another line only for discounted student and give 100%

Hi, As far as I know, this is standard behavior.

And if you need an additional discount, you can set it up on Sales Invoice when creating sales invoice
