Display Marketing List Info on a Contact View

Dear All,

to be honest, I’m a little bit frustrated at the moment. I do have a need in Dynamics and it is actually a pretty simple one too.

We do work a lot with Marketing Lists, almost on a daily basis. Here is the point where I got stuck: We would like to have a list with all contacts from a specific owner (no problem – just create a view) on the contact level and then we would like to see if a contact is already in a marketing list and if yes, in which one(s). This isn’t possible. I tried everything, workflows, views etc. but it seems that this simple request is not gettable.

Is there a good solution to this problem, because I honestly don’t think I’m the only one with that problem and it would be really important?

Thanks for your help,

Janosch

Unfortunately, what you are asking for isn't possible. A contact can be associated with zero or more marketing lists, and there is no user interface for displaying these kinds of relationships in a view. In the same way, you can't display activities, opportunities or cases related to a contact in a contact view.

    Hi Janosch,

You are right that you can't do that kind of report easily--maybe some day Microsoft will add more complex reporting into CRM.  However here are some workarounds.

To find people who are on a marketing list and which one, you can do that with a Report Wizard report that shows Contacts and their Marketing Lists.

To find out which contacts are not on ANY marketing lists, then create a marketing list of all contacts owned by the user.  Then use an Advanced Find to REMOVE members and do a query for all contacts who are on marketing lists.  The remaining members of the marketing list are those who are NOT on ANY marketing lists.

Thank you very much for the answer and for the suggestions. Unfortunately, the given answer doesn’t put a smile on my face. I would be able to do the Report and the Marketing List, but then again, it wouldn’t be displayed on a single list/ view. Sad that this simple idea doesn't work.

As mentioned, thanks for the help anyway.

    Best,

    Janosch

This seems like such a ridiculously obvious request that so many users would have...I really wish Microsoft would get this to work!
