Replacing Case Entity Quick Create Form

Posted on by 135

Hi all,

Our users are unhappy with the OOB quick create form for the case entity. The main reason is that it's too slow and they hate the subject control field. As a workaround for a busy period we created a web form that connected to the CRM (v9) that was faster and had a type ahead functionality for the subject field which was significantly easier to use. We would now like to bring this form and functionality back into CRM, but it looks like it is going to be difficult to do as it is not possible to create a web resource on a quick create form. It would be very interesting to know if anyone has been able to make significant improvements to the handling of a quick create form, specifically the subject field or whether one was able to devise a workaround for the web resource functionality.

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately you can not add event in top pane + icon for quick create.  You can only stop quick create for particular entity from there.

If you uncheck "Allow quick create" option for that particular entity, then it would open the full Main form always from subgrid.

If you want both Quick create option as well as Main form, but only from subgrid you want to use Main form then you have to customize the command of that "Add" button in Ribbon workbench & call custom javascript to open the Entity form.

As an alternative, is there a way that a user could call a main form via a shortcut key or Function key etc.?

Thanks Goutam, yes we have an onload js function to hide or show fields depending on what options are selected. Apart from subject field, we are looking at adding some javascript so that it renders correctly in chrome. We have the same number of fields on both forms, but the external form loads faster and has a better UI. We have customised main forms with web resources that can avail of ajax , previewing documents etc. and these work well from a UX perspective. It would be really nice if we could apply the same improvement to a quick create form.

    Hi,

If I am not wrong is there any JS function registered in onload of the quick create form?

Might be your CRM instance or network connectivity issue , check that first .

Quick create form is design to create record with only minimum fields to make faster creation and not to design similar like main form , so try to convince your  customer before changing any design.

I haven't tried putting a custom control on a quick create form, but if that works, it seems like the best way to get what you're looking for.  docs.microsoft.com/.../use-custom-controls-data-visualizations

You might have to make the custom controls themselves, but it seems like a desirable option.

Also, the October update apparently is revamping the Subject functionality, so keep an eye on that as well.

You can create a new quick create form and add fields that you requires.

Deactivate old quick create form. This will resolve your issue.
