My customer is running Dynamics 365 v9 Onpremise and can connect with iphone browser (with VPN) to Dynamics CRM server.When login with Dynamics 365 for Phones (with vpn on) they get message "can’t connect to the server because SSL certification verification failed".Any ideas what needs to be done here ?

Hi Pekka,
Certification validation can be more comprehensive with the mobile app. So, if there is something missing like an intermediary certificate that isn't trusted, you will see an issue with connecting mobile.
Here is a helpful tool to use for certificate validation: https://www.digicert.com/help/
Simply enter in the address of your CRM site (crm.contoso.com) and select the button to check.
