Service item was marked as "stocked". When purchased, it hit inventory, but when sales, it did not.

Hi All,

I ran through a few items which I think are weird.  I have a Service item that classified as "stocked".  I normally see Service as non-stock. When I posted this PO, it hit inventory account, but when I run the inventory on-hand, this item did not show up.

When I post a SO invoice for this item, it did not hit inventory account of course did not show up in the inventory on-hand report.

I wonder what triggered this inventory acct posting in PO, but not inventory on-hand, and no inventory impact on SO. I see that the Inventory tab in the Inventory posting profile is set up for inventory issue and receipt for all items (screenshot 2).  Could someone shed light to this please?  Thanks so much!

    Hi Kim,

This is possible and lot of customer do this intentionally.

So when you select item type as service and item model group as Stocked. This means you want those items to create inventory transactions but as fundamental these products are not something which you hold on hand inventory.

One of the scenario is subcontracting or defining BOM component for manufacturing.

But lot of times it is also by mistake, so if it is done by mistake then it should be corrected.

    Thanks, Saurabh, for your response.

Yes, BOM is used but not for manufacturing but for bundle.  Why does BOM need to be used in bundle?  Thanks.
