Visual Studio Error After Kernal Update

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 504

Hi,

I currently have Dynamics ax 2012 R3 RTM, (Application version : 6.3.164.0) I have updated the latest Kernel Version (6.3.6000.4444) as a pre-req i uninstalled the VS 2010 tools. Now it is forcing me to install the VS 2013 tools instead of 2010.

I downloaded the VS 2013 from Sip Stream CU13 and installed VS 2013 tools.  When opening Visual Studio 2013 and creating new report it is showing error "Object reference not set to an instance of an Object" i did many things found on the internet.

I believe i am doing some thing wrong.

    Hi,

    Some questions/hints

1st) did you recompile the whole box after the binary updares

2nd) did you update all binaries of each participating components ssrs extension, client and aos

3rd) did you install reportviewer2012 and the sql datatypes 2012 and sql data tools

4th) Can you access normal c sharp project classes from within vs

5th) have you tried reconfigure your configuration for both standard and business connector client? Maybe there us an old axreportserverconfig.axc in the repirtserver bin

    6th) can you deploy reports?

    regards Douglas

2nd) did you update all binaries of each participating components ssrs extension, client and aos (Yes , i selected all the components)

3rd) did you install reportviewer2012 and the sql datatypes 2012 and sql data tools (Yes, It's a pre req )

4th) Can you access normal c sharp project classes from within vs  (It's giving error while importing any project from Dynamics)

5th) have you tried reconfigure your configuration for both standard and business connector client? Maybe there us an old axreportserverconfig.axc in the repirtserver bin ( I refreshed both)

    6th) can you deploy reports?

    Hi,

sorry, now I'm out of ideas. But especially the 4th point shows that this seems to be not a report related problem only. You should be able to open simple csharp projects.

Summarized: you see the application explorer (aot) from within vs but can't do anything. You run an old (pre CU8) application (not updated) against postorequeal CU8 binaries - nevertheless this should work.

Did you find any valuable information (error messages) in event logs of aos or client?

Maybe two other shots in the dark (remember 'strange' issues on that, but not sure if this is related to your problem)

    - something wrong with the performance counters which influences business connector session. lodctr /r

    - office add ins (don't know why, but remember a situation where the installed office add ins influenced the behaviour of an vs2013, it's to long ago)

Do you know if this is a generic problem (reproducable on all updated machines) and (I know, it's very time consuming) what is the result if installing client plus vs plus required things on a machine never had seen something from ax, vs?

Please keep us informed if you fi d the cause.

    regards and sorry

    Douglas

    Addon,

really stupid question: But did you clear client cache files?

I remember some other strange things (on the way from R3 to R4(R3CU8) which we could solve on invalidating all the auc things (incl. nongui files) for all users with resetting the guid within syssqmsettings table.

    Regards

While opening Report in Visual Studio from Application Explorer i am getting following 2 errors:

    Error 1 :

"The operation failed due to an issue with connecting to the AOT. The connection has now been restored. You must redo the last operation." was shown due to the exception FatalSessionException: Dynamics Record Adapter GetField failed.

    Error 2:

    Dynamics Record Adapter GetField failed.

The supplied method arguments are not valid.

    System.ArgumentException
    at Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.ManagedInterop.Record.get_Field(String fieldName)
    at Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.BusinessConnector.Session.DynamicsRecordAdapter.GetField(String fieldName)

Visual Studio C sharp projects are opening fine in Visual Studio

Till now, I didn't get a proper solution for this,

But as a workaround, I have re-installed the server and all components(Including VS tools 2010) with RTM version on Development machines, and using DB restored from production (with Latest Kernel ).

On Starting Service I am getting error :

Object Server 01:  Fatal SQL condition during login. Error message: "The internal time zone version number stored in the database is higher than the version supported by the kernel (11/7). Use a newer Microsoft Dynamics AX kernel."

To Solve this I ran this command to change the Value to 7.

    select * from SQLSystemVariables
    WHERE PARM = 'SYSTIMEZONESVERSION'

    UPDATE SQLSystemVariables
    SET VALUE = 7
    WHERE PARM = 'SYSTIMEZONESVERSION'

Please Share the proper solution if you have any. Thanks
