What is the best approach to writing a script to migrate from on-premise -> Cloud

Hello All,

I am currently migrating an existing system from on-premise 8.2 to Cloud D365. Up until now, I've been using the CDS Configuration Migration tool to move over all our data and it's been working great. The only issue is that the "Assigned To", "Created On" and "Modified By" fields aren't keeping their original values. The migration is being treated as an insert and therefore those records ARE being created today and by me, the user signed in during the migration process. I've been doing some digging in the forums and documentation and all I can seem to find are suggestions to use Scribe or KingsWaySoft, which isn't possible for us at this point in time.

I believe my only option left is to write a .NET script to alter the existing records to match what we had on-premise. My question is, what approach would you guys take? I'm not even sure if it's possible as I am fairly new to working with Dynamics CRM.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks!

    Hello,

I would highly recommend getting in touch with Microsoft FastTrack and using their services to migrate your system to the cloud - all your data will be preserved.

Unfortunately, we cannot use this. Looking to get this done with a script.

If FastTrack is not an option I would highly recommend using SSIS + KingsWay soft adapters. This product is worth every penny spent. Also, KingsWay soft adapters for SSIS have a "developer" license, so you can try and check how it works to decide what would be easier - write code for every entity or design it visually.

So I work for a company that has made it very clear to me that spending money is not a possibility, no matter how easy it would make the process.  Is there any way to use these without spending or using a license?

I won't insist but writing/testing .Net code to migrate the data will take more time than doing the same using SSIS, so the company would either spend money for licenses of KingsWaySoft or for your salary - anyways, money would be spent.

If you anyways looking for options to migrate the data using .Net code application you can check the following posts:
